Like many homeowners, I had heard countless stories about contractors who failed to communicate, didn't show up when promised, left projects unfinished while they moved on to other jobs, created unnecessary messes, or simply failed to deliver what had been promised. I approached my own project with some hesitation because of those experiences I had heard from others.
From the very beginning, Alaskan Sons Construction exceeded every expectation I had.
Michael was exceptional in his communication throughout the entire project. I never had to wonder what was happening or when the crew would arrive. In fact, if they were delayed by even a few minutes because of traffic, Michael would personally call to let me know exactly when they would be there. That level of professionalism and respect for my time was refreshing.
The entire crew was equally impressive. They were friendly, courteous, respectful, and incredibly hardworking. They clearly take pride in their craft. While they were on the job, they worked diligently and efficiently, always maintaining a professional attitude. They also kept the work area clean and organized, which my family greatly appreciated.
Most importantly, the quality of their workmanship exceeded our expectations. The finished project
was outstanding, and we could not have been happier with the final result. Throughout the entire
process there were no unpleasant surprises, no miscommunication, and no excuses—only honest, dependable service and exceptional craftsmanship.
It is rare to find a contractor who combines integrity, communication, reliability, and quality workmanship as well as Alaskan Sons Construction. I've been working with Michael Basalyga and Alaskan Sons Construction for nearly 15 years now, and can't recommend him highly enough. Is it possible to give 10 stars in a 5 star review?
We first found Michael when the contractor we wanted to hire for a major kitchen/living room remodel was booked, but he suggested giving Michael instead. I'll admit when we met him, I had a moment of doubt... he seemed young and I wasn't sure he'd be up to a job the size I was imagining. Michael connected us with a past client so we could see his work firsthand, and I'll never forget what she told us after he left the room: that if we could get on his schedule, we should take it, because we wouldn't regret it. She said his work was meticulous, he had a perfect eye for detail, he'd be on time, stay on budget, communicate every step of the way, and that every subcontractor he brought in would be just as careful and skilled. We hired him on the spot.
In the 15 years since. Michael has come back to do multiple projects across different homes, managing smaller projects like a bathroom or deck to complete down-to-the-studs, complete home renovation. He's still my first call for any house or construction question, big or small and I can't shout his name fast enough when someone asks "Hey....does anyone know a good contractor....."
One detail that's always stuck with me: even in those early days, his kids would come along to help on the jobsite, hauling, sweeping, keeping things tidy, and carefully watching their dad work. Every evening when Michael left, the site was organized and ready for the next day. Now those kids are grown and working in the business alongside him, and it shows -- the company is only stronger for it.
So take to heart the words we did so many years ago "....if you can get on his schedule, take the spot." You won't regret it

I have known Michael for just over twenty years. In that time I have both hired him to do work for me and also worked for him as a contractor.
I have watched him and his boys grow the business in to what it is today. Michael is one of the most detailed oriented contractors that I have ever worked with. His scheduling is probably the most precise I have ever been around.
All of the projects that I have been involved with are always turn key when completed. He doesn't leave loose ends.
His two older boys have gone from little kids to having their own families and homeowners since I met them. They are excellent workers. I have had the pleasure of working with both of them.
There are probably only three contractors that I would recommend to do work on my own customers projects if I was not able to do them, and Alaskans Sons would be the first on that list.

Alaskan Sons Construction phenomenally designed and built our 4-car garage. They were
recommended by a friend, and after working with them we quickly understood why the
recommendation was highly given. Unlike other contractors we’ve experienced, Michael and his sons were hardworking, honest, and took great pride in their work. Their communication was excellent throughout the project, keeping us informed at every step and responding quickly to any questions we had.
The process was: demoing our old garage, designing and building the new one, staining the siding to match our house, and going above and beyond—even relocating three lilac bushes.
They carefully designed a flat, sloped roof to match our house that was just the right height to not block views from our upper deck. They also provided an interior free of middle support columns to give us added versatility for vehicles and equipment storage. Every part of the process was transparent and we were never surprised by price, timing, etc. Throughout the entire project we were constantly impressed with their work ethic and how well they cleaned up the work site every day. And, we absolutely love our new garage! The design of it seamlessly flows into our property and looks so good that we’ve had packages delivered to it, thinking it was a house.
I never thought I’d say this about a contractor in Alaska, but working with Michael and his
family was a pleasure. It was refreshing to work with a company that is dependable, effective with their communication, and genuinely cares about the quality of their work. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy contractor, and I would gladly hire them again.
